Outlaw Field: Welcome Center

Image included as a reference point for what the building
looked like hundreds of years ago. Now this structure is
just slightly protruding from the tree line of a light forest.
You approach the abandoned building with caution. The structure itself looks stable, although the years have definitely taken their toll on the building. What was once glass in the front of the building has long since been shattered and replaced by a makeshift wall of wood and other materials nailed together. The front doors have been taken down altogether recently, and they are resting against the rest of the outside wall to the left of the opening where they once were.

There is a slight buzzing sound coming from a power generator that you can see to the side of the building. The unit has a large Madcap Mercenaries stamp on the side, and thick cords run from the generator through the front door and to some kind of light source.

It is easy to see inside, as the lighting that the excavation group set up is apparently still on. The front room is mostly empty, except for trash and the smells that accompany it. You can see where the workers cleared paths through rubble and trash, which probably accumulated over the years from various squatters using this place as a temporary residence. There are two doors in the front room, and each has a rubble-free path leading to it from the entrance. One door is barely on its hinges, and looks like it leads to what might once have been a waiting area, a large room with lots of old metal and plastic chairs. The other door is closed, and although the door itself has obviously been replaced recently, there is an ancient sign above it on which you can barely make out the words, "Employees Only."

Myra closes her eyes to concentrate again for a moment. "We're closer now... that's all I can make out. We're not alone."

  1. . What would it be "Employees Only" room? Myra, can you pin-point it?

  2. Kinda anxious to find out what's behind the 'Employees Only' door myself. I'm waiting on Myra's input before I just go strolling in.

  3. Myra responds, "'Employees Only' used to be on doors before the cataclysm to note places that visitors or customers weren't supposed to go. It probably doesn't mean much, except that what was originally beyond this door wasn't meant for guests."

She closes her eyes and squints, concentrating harder. "There are presences... multiple beings. I've sensed much stronger presences in the past, but these are still dangerous. I still can't tell exactly where they are."

  4. We have no choice but to assume they are hostile. "Ok, guys. Party time." I ready my rifle in anticipation.

  6. After you Mr. Mason (I ready my gun too).

OCC1. Josh keep in mind my PC has Sixth Sense psychic power in case of an ambush.
OCC2. Argghh! Very excited for what's going on atthe complex. Very good pace and mood for now, congrats! :)

  7. OCC ...and Quim's sixth sense says?

  8. Frederick's sixth sense doesn't warn him of any immediate danger as the group approaches the "Employees Only" door. It is unlocked but slightly jammed. Still, a quick shoulder overcomes the jam and the door creaks loudly as it opens and light pours into the hallway ahead.

You hear a shuffle, and you just barely catch a glimpse of something darting into a doorway down the hall on the right... something short and furry, perhaps four feet tall. In the dim light, you couldn't make out anything more than that before it disappeared.

There are two other doors between you and the door it entered. One of those, also on the right, is closed. The other, on the left side of the hall, is closed.

OOC: Sixth Sense power noted... glad you mentioned it because I had forgotten! And I wish I could maintain that pace consistently. Hopefully when I start my new job, I'll have more time. I don't want to get peoples' hopes up, though.

  9. Furry? Sounds like it might be the creature that chewed open that back at the camp. I want to find out where that thing is headed.

OOC: Just FYI, when it comes time to fight, I might need a crash course in how that all works. I've slept a few times since then!

    1. No worries... most of it will happen behind the scenes. If you make an attack, just roll a d20 and put the results in your post. If you're at work or something and can't, just tell me and I'll roll it for you whenever I see the post. I'll handle modifiers on my end.

For the most part, you'll just need to tell me whether you're taking a normal shot or using one of the following:
-Aimed Shot: a little more likely to hit, counts as two attacks
-Called Shot: when targeting something specific (like a head shot, for example), counts as two attacks
-Shooting Wild: shooting without the ability or time to aim (shooting while running, or while under heavy fire, or while on fire, etc), pretty steep penalties

    2. OOC: Obviously, all of that last comment was OOC as well... sorry about missing that distinction.

  10. Kendrick approaches the end of the hallway. Peering around the corner, he sees a dimly lit room with desks here and there. There are no exits in sight. Somewhere inside, you hear mumbling.

Myra whispers, "I sense... fear... it's scared of us..."

Frederick gets a flash of images warning him of the near future: a glimpse of a rat-like face and this hallway erupting in flames!

  11. Can I tell who is mumbling, or what is being said? I slowly walk towards the muttering, gun pointed towards the room I'm approaching.

  12. Take care! Get cover! Rats, fire! I enter the room where the mumbling is from folowing Kendrick and covring Myra with my own body.

  13. OOC Do I know what Fred is seeing? Or Do I need to wait on Quim to say himself what the visions are?

And just to clarify, I want to determine what the mumbling is before I enter the room if possible so I can plan prepare accordingly.
