Outlaw Field: Trap Door

The rat accepts your help and finally comes out into full view. Still, he takes his time to size you up before he moves too far from the cover of the desks that he could leap behind if necessary. He's wearing little more than a pair of pants and an empty pistol holster on one hip. He stares at each of you intently, one at a time. Finally satisfied that he isn't in any immediate danger, he says, "Yes! Come. Follow me to the hole."

The rat leads you to a closed doorway in the very hallway you scrambled down in order to avoid his fiery attack. The scorched mark on the floor is still there, and you can't help but think about the near miss when you pass it.

The rat crouches as he pushes the door open, as if trying to be as stealthy as possible. He points across the room at a trap door leading down. The trap door is on the ground off to the side, and a narrow staircase leads down into darkness. "Over there," he whispers. "Door with lock is down there, down long hallway. They lock door and won't let me in!"

"Well, guys," Myra says. "Looks like this is it." She glances down at her pistol to make sure that the safety is off, and then she takes a deep breath. "We ready?"

  1. I put on my gas mask (one is never too prepared) and draw my pistol again.

    "After you Mr. Mason".

Myra, do you detect anything special down there?

OCC. Josh, remember again my 6th sense. ;P

  2. OOC Yeah, Josh. Remember Quim's sixth sense. LOL

"As ready as we're gonna get. I'll take the lead. Fred you cover the back."

With that, I sling my rifle across my back, and begin the descension down into the darkness.

  3. You descend about fifteen feet and find yourself in a room with a dirt floor and walls made of cinder blocks. The floor is uneven, but the dirt is compacted rather than loose. The floor slopes downward, and the opposite side of the room is a foot or so lower than where you're standing. Directly across from you, about thirty feet away, is a closed wooden door. Light is streaming out from under it, and coupled with the light from the stairs behind you, the room is lit just enough to make out its relative emptiness. The only thing in the room aside from the door is to the left of that door... a large object, or perhaps a pile of objects. In such dim light, it is difficult to make out.

The smell of the place is very earthy, but you keep thinking that you also smell chlorine, even though it seems very out of place.

Aside from the door, the thing off to the left that you can't quite make out in the light, and the odd smell, the room seems empty.

The rat peeks over the edge of the hole behind you and whispers loudly, "Let me know when it is safe!"

  4. OOC Seriously, how the HELL do I not have a flashlight?!

    1. OOC: Hmmmm... probably because most Coalition equipment is "available upon assignment" so it isn't listed in the equipment section. Still, it's not like this place is completely dark... just dim enough that you can't make out what that big thing across the room is without getting closer (or finding another light source). :-)

  5. OOC I still want a good look at whatever this is. So I have a flashlight or no? Not that it matters: Fred has one. But for future references.

  6. Myra pulls out two flashlights and, with a wide grin, hands one to Kendrick. Then she turns hers on and points it in the direction of what was previously unidentifiable.

With the steady beam of light, you can tell that it is a pile of bodies, and from the look of the uniforms, it seems clear that these are some of the Madcap Mercenaries employees you were sent to find.

    2. I pull out my flashlight too and check the dead bodies out using my forensics skill. What do I get?

  7. OOC: I rolled for you... failed result... so I'll just give you the general information rather than a more detailed cause of death.

Frederick's inspection reveals little about how these people (five men and two women) died. Each one has various bruises, but there is no consistent pattern. They could have been working very rough jobs or the could have been in fist fights recently... hard to tell. The only obvious and notable sign of trauma is on the hands. Each corpse has one hand that seems to have been burnt, but although the burns are severe, they don't look to be life threatening.

Myra, who has been checking out the door near the pile of bodies, hisses, "Shhhhh!" She leans up against the door for a second and then whispers, "Somebody coming!" before she readies her pistol and backs away from the door. Sure enough, within seconds, you hear loud footsteps approaching.

    1. WAHOO!!! HERE WE GO!!! Rifle at the ready.

OOC Can I ready an action?

    2. OOC: Sorry... forgot to respond! It's not exactly the same as readying an action in D&D 3.5, but let me know what you want to do.

  8. (inside note): It seems I can still put to good use those internal organs.

I ready my pistol to, instinctively protecting Myra with my own body.

OCC: Does my 6th Sense triggers?

    1. Sixth Sense does not trigger...

OOC: I'm SUPER tired, but I'm going to try to write up the next post before I pass out. No promises, except that if I don't finish tonight, I'll definitely have it up tomorrow.
